Description of Significance/Historical Narrative
Established in 1774 as the Library Company, in 1957 the Hartford Public Library moved from its location at the Wadsworth Atheneum to a new building at 500 Main Street designed by the architectural firm of Schutz and Goodwin. A new addition by TSKP (architect Tai Soo Kim, graduate of the Yale School of Architecture) completed in 2007 more than doubled its size.
