Description of Significance/Historical Narrative
A contributing resource to the Stonington Borough Historic District, the building is also individually listed on the National Register as the home of noted American poet James Ingram Merrill and his partner David Noyes Jackson. Purchased in 1956, they used the third floor as their living space, adding an attic studio and rooftop deck. The quirky decor has been preserved, and the apartment is now home to a writers in residence program.
