Description of Significance/Historical Narrative
Significant as an 18th-century sea captain's house. Significant in the 20th century as one of three homes associated with the Norwich Art School and Slater Museum. It was used as a studio by Ozias Dodge, director at the Norwich Art School (1897-1910), who lived next door at 8 Mediterranean Lane with his wife. The home and studio were later purchased by Blanche Browning, also a onetime art school director.
