Description of Significance/Historical Narrative
Architect Howard Hoppin of Providence, RI was engaged to design a building for Christ Church to replace its earlier 1824 structure to the north on this street. The 1983 sculpture of the 'Miracle of Loaves and Fishes' by Alice Dunbar, carved stone, was a gift of the parishioners and is a rare example of Dunbar's work in a public space. The church and rectory are located in the Pomfret Street Historic District.
