Description of Significance/Historical Narrative
This International Style house was designed and built by muralist Ezra Winter with a local builder in the Falls Village section of Canaan, on property he purchased in 1930. He and his wife called their estate Juniper Hill. The home has many of the hallmarks of the International or Bauhaus, including flat roof, flat stucco walls, floor-to-ceiling windows and flush metal casement windows. It was later home to the Lathrop sisters, one a sculptor, the other a children's book author and illustrator. A large addition was built on the east side of the house and fits in with the modern style.
