Description of Significance/Historical Narrative
The James Family and later the extended family including Lanes, Petrys, and Chisholms, purchased or built homes in the area surrounding the South Green. The first property acquired was at 2 Pennywise Lane, where a pharmacy was established in 1901 by Peter Clark Lane, Jr., later known as the James Pharmacy. Peter Clark Lane, Jr. and Bertha James Lane built a new home at 151 Old Boston Post Road in 1920. Peter and Bertha’s daughter Ann Lane and her husband George Petry purchased the house at 113 Old Boston Post Road, slightly east of Quarry Street, in 1947 and owned it through the rest of their lives. This c. 1800 house was traditionally known as the Ford Place for an early owner, Russell Ford.
