Home of Harold Barbour in Higganum.

Description of Significance/Historical Narrative
A contributing resource to the Higganum Landing Historic District, which illustrates the development of an active and important early New England shipbuilding community, the Kelly-Child House is one of two earliest remaining houses at the Landing both built by John Kelly. The house is also significant as the long-time home of artist Harold Barbour, who worked for the WPA art programs during the 1930s and continued as a commercial and fine artist living in this house until 1961. Barbour's family roots were in Haddam for generations; he lived in New York for a time and had this as a second home, before moving here permanently.
