Description of Significance/Historical Narrative
Kenneth Lynch & Sons was established in 1927 for the production of ornamental ironwork. In 1938, after occupying shops in the New York City area and producing benches for the 1939 World's Fair, the firm relocated to Wilton. Between 1941 and 1946, when Kenneth Lynch served in the Army, the ironwork shop closed and the factory was leased to the Peterson Gold Club Company. Ornamental ironwork production resumed thereafter, and was supplemented by cast stone ornaments from hand-carved European models. In 1964 and the 1980's the firm again made park benches for New York City Parks out of the Wilton factory. Having outgrown the Wilton facility, the firm moved to Oxford in 2007. The property initially had several shop buildings as well as dwellings, with additional buildings going up over time. See the company website https://klynchandsons.com/our-history/
