Description of Significance/Historical Narrative
Built by Colonel Elish Buell, the Marlborough Tavern, listed on the National Register for its 18th century significance, was operated by his family for 167 years. However it is also notable as the home of the Central Connecticut Art Center at Four Corners during the 1930s. A group of locally and nationally known artists who lived in the Connecticut River valley area taught classes and exhibited here in the summers.
