Edward Ferrari

Edward Ferrari designed the ornamentation on the Comstock Hill Avenue Bridge on the Merritt Parkway in Norwalk.

Description of Significance/Historical Narrative
While George L. Dunkelberger designed the Merritt Parkway overpass and underpass bridges, sculptor Edward Ferrari executed the molds for the ornamentation. For the Comstock Hill Avenue bridge however, Ferrari also designed the decorative motifs of a Native American and a Pilgrim, as the earliest settlers to the New England area. The sculptures were created as art in a public space, they function as art for the people, much as the art of the WPA period was intended to do.
