Salt Meadow was the country home of Lape and partner. Now the headquarters of the McKinney National Widlife Refuge.

Description of Significance/Historical Narrative
Murdock Hill, a former farm, became the home of intellectuals Esther Everett Lape and Elizabeth Fisher Read, who renamed it Salt Meadow. In 1929, they remodeled the 18th century Murdock house and built the Lape-Read house. The latter has an unusual plan with no formal living spaces.
