Although other artists such as John Steuart Curry and A. G. Hull had commissions here, Alexander Rummler painted the majority of murals throughout the school, 16 completed between 1937-1941, as well as 8 smaller panels.

Description of Significance/Historical Narrative
Originally built as the Norwalk High School, this site is culturally significant as the main repository of one of the largest collections of WPA art in the country with 22 murals and paintings in a building constructed with federal New Deal funding. The Norwalk community excelled at organizing artists and artwork in this period. The artwork was saved when the building was renovated into the City Hall in the 1980s.
