Description of Significance/Historical Narrative
Originally a mid-19th century mill building, the Old Sasco Mill was the home of the Famous Artists School when it was first established in 1948. The location was ideal given its proximity to New York City and the local artist population. Its faculty included important illustrators such as Stevan Dohanos, Robert Fawcett, Fred Ludekens, and Norman Rockwell. The school went bankrupt but survives under different ownership in Wilton, and its archives are now in the collection of the Norman Rockwell Museum.
