Beals and his wife Carolyn moved here in 1957 and lived here for the remainder of their lives. Beals used the relocated schoolhouse as his writing studio.

Description of Significance/Historical Narrative
The 18th-century farmstead has a timber frame Cape Cod Cottage and barn, and a 19th century one room schoolhouse moved there in 1950. It is significant as the home and studio of nationally prominent writer and journalist Carleton Beals from 1957 to his death in 1979. He used the school house as his writing studio. Listed on the State Register as part of the Creative Places project.
