William Meredith

Meredith cultivated ornamental trees on the property together with his friend and neighbor Patrick Dawley. In the early 1970s he was joined by his partner, Richard Harteis.

Description of Significance/Historical Narrative
William Meredith purchased property on Kitemaug Road in 1958. He sold the c.1860 farmhouse in 1978 and converted a barn on the property, which he called 'Riverrun,' for his own residence. Meredith lived here while teaching at Connecticut College and the landscape was inspirational to his poetry. The property is now home to the William Meredith Foundation and Center for the Arts.
