The sculpture consists of 36 glacial boulders arranged on the ground. The stones were selected by sculptor Carl Andre to represent the mix of glacial rock typical of the Hartford area.

Description of Significance/Historical Narrative
Parcel created by re-routing of Gold Street in 1960s to align with Atheneum Square North. The sculptor and project design were selected by a public art selection process and privately funded. Andre's work is widely recognized as Minimalist sculpture and this piece is one of the few public art works by the sculptor.
