Dr. Gladys S. Tantaquidgeon, her father John and brother Harold, planned the museum as a place to share the traditions and art of the Mohegans and other Indian peoples.

Description of Significance/Historical Narrative
Historically important because of its association with the Mohegan people, the stone building at 1819 Route 32 was built as a museum by members of the Tantaquidgeon family, descendants of Uncas, Mohegan sachem in the 17th century.
